Course description:
Classical and semi-classical music in the North Indian or Hindustani tradition. Students will learn and perform musical compositions that showcase the use of raga (melody) and tala (rhythm). No prior experience with Indian music necessary. Harmonium, tabla, tanpura and other traditional Indian instruments will be used to support singing and can be supplemented by acoustic western instruments such as guitar, flute, clarinet, violin etc.
